His host, motioning to a waiter to unwrap the towel from the chilled wine, politely thanked him for the compliment... The single largest grape-wine district in California lies at the backdoor of Los Angeles and the Valley, stretching over 22,000 acres of rambling vineyards in the Cucamonga-Guasti-Alta Loma-Etiwanda area. Despite being the largest - and oldest - district, the western San Bernardino County wine country has long, often with justification, stood in the shadows of the renown areas of the north... Napa... Sonoma... Santa Clara. But this weekend marks a key step in the Cucamonga vintners' efforts to drive their region and wines to a prosperous plateau of respect - the first Cucamonga Wine and Grape Festival in many years."
