- View of a desert cactus and other desert plants in the Mt. San Jacinto region on the Palm Springs side. This particular type of cactus is very rarely found outside of this immediate vicinity. Founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1888, the City of San Jacinto is located at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains. Palm Springs, incorporated in 1938, is located approximately 110 miles east of Los Angeles, and lies at the foot of one of Southern California's most majestic mountain peak, Mount San Jacinto, with an elevation of 10,834 feet. April 28, 1937.
