- Photograph of an exterior view of the stone tavern at the entrance to Devore Canyon, Cajon Pass, ca.1884. The building which also served as a stage station, saloon and hotel, is pictured at center with two-stories and a multileveled roof. A woman stands on the patio, in the process of opening the front door. A gas or propane tank can be seen in front of the house to the right, in front of a picket fence. A ladder leans up against the left wall of the house. Debris and lumber are scattered in the front yard. Trees can be seen in the background. Picture file card reads: "The tavern consisted of two floors--two rooms on the ground floor and one room on the second story. On the lower floor, the left side was a saloon, while the right side was a store and stage depot. Its history can be traced back to 1854. The present occupants are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Meddoc and their daughter. They have been occupant there since 1906. Main walls on the ground floor are 2 1/2 ' thick.".
