- Photograph of an exterior view of the pool house (aka "the solarium") at the Arrowhead Springs Hotel resort, ca.1925-1930. The low, single-story solarium can be seen at center. Two wooden doors can be seen, one at left and one at right, while a large cloth awning covers a porch at center. A large pool can be seen in the foreground and the calm water reflects the surrounding scene. Several eucalyptus trees are visible in the background. Additional information: The pool itself was built circa 1908, and the solarium was added circa 1925. Professor Gilbert Ellis Bailey studied and wrote extensively on the geology and mineralogy of the hot springs directly below the famous "arrowhead" landmark (California Historical Landmark # 977) back in the early 1900's, and he ranked the quality of this particular set of mineral springs as equal to the finest in Europe. His publications on this subject are eye-opening. Professor Bailey taught at USC.
