- View of the Hotel Edinburgh, located in Beaumont. This beautiful Queen Anne Revival 3-story, 70 room, $40,000 hostelry in Riverside County was built in the late 1880s by the Southern California Investment Company under the leadership of Dr. Sigler. It was considered one of the finest hotels in the heart of the city in the vicinity of Beaumont Ave. and Fifth St., having every modern comfort and convenience, upper and lower wrap-around balconies, modern plumbing, fire places in every room, and gas lighting throughout the entire house. The Edinburgh Hotel, formerly named the Beaumont Hotel (faintly seen above the 3rd story), tragically burned to the ground in August 1935.; The sleepy town of Beaumont, located in Riverside County, became recognized as an incorporated California city on November 18, 1912 and adopted its current name (French for "beautiful mountain") at that time. Local residents dubbed the city "the land of the big red apple" in its early years for being one of Riverside County's largest apple growers. As of 1927, the town boasted a small population of 857; as of 2007 the population had grown to 28,250.
